WebStatik is a calculation and documentation application developed for structural engineers within construction. It is intended for calculating and documenting load takedowns in buildings with diaphragm systems, or buildings where the load-bearing and bracing systems consist wholly or partly of walls. The application focuses on making load takedowns with many loads, load cases and load combinations clear and efficient. WebStatik is entirely web-based and can be used in an ordinary web browser without installing anything. All project and calculation files are stored online in a secure and organised way.
Projects in WebStatik can be shared between several members, who can all work on the project at the same time. The application automatically tracks which files are open where and ensures that changes cannot overwrite one another in ways the project members did not intend. All parts of the application are available in Danish and English, making collaboration easy between Danish-speaking and non-Danish-speaking engineers. For example, an entire project can be prepared in English and its documentation then generated automatically in Danish, or vice versa.
Each project can define a central set of loads, load cases and load combinations for reuse throughout the project's calculations. Calculations can also be linked so that the result of one calculation becomes an input to another calculation and updates automatically when changes are made.
WebStatik currently includes three calculation modules:
•
Vertical Load Takedown — Performs a takedown of vertical loads through multiple storeys of a wall and produces clear diagrams and tables showing the resulting loads for all load cases and load combinations, with optional automatic reduction of live loads originating from multiple storeys.
•
Horizontal Load Distribution — Distributes horizontal loads in a floor diaphragm to its supporting shear walls, with options for both elastic and plastic distribution, and produces clear diagrams and tables showing the resulting reactions for all load cases and load combinations.
•
Shear Wall Calculation — Performs a takedown of horizontal and vertical loads through multiple storeys of a shear wall and produces clear diagrams and tables showing the resulting reactions for all load combinations.
The calculation modules are developed with a focus on making load takedowns clear and efficient and establishing a clear connection between loads, load combinations, calculations, results and documentation. Each calculation module therefore includes a visualisation of the structure, which updates automatically when changes are made and can be included automatically in PDF exports.
WebStatik includes a dedicated tool for creating PDF reports, allowing all of a project's information and calculations to be assembled automatically into one report. All sections, headings, tables and figures are numbered automatically, and a table of contents, list of figures and list of tables are included automatically, making it easy to prepare organised and readable reports of any size.
As a new program, WebStatik is currently free and available for everybody. If you are interested, you can create an account here.
